Stonehenge

Our first visitor to Oxford arrived Saturday-- one of Deb's oldest friends-- Michelle Lackner, from Minnesota. (oops-I mean "most enduring" friend-- we met in 7th grade science class...). Sunday was spent hopping on and off a city sightseeing tour bus, stopping occasionally at points of interest, like Blackwell's Books and the Eagle & Child. (This is the famous pub where CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien used to hang out).

Monday brought lab work for Philip, but an adventure for us as we negotiated several trains and buses through the English countryside to Salisbury, where Stonehenge is located.

As you can see, we had a fantastic summer day to travel. These monoliths are quite something and your imagination really runs wild as you contemplate the how anyone could haul these bluestones from the Welsh Coast-- much less why!

Once back in Oxford, we met Shelly's daughter Sara at the train station. Sara is finishing up a year of studying abroad at Cambridge and so she popped over to join us for today's round of sighteseeing.

Philip spent the evening with his editor from Oxford University Press, celebrating the completion of the text portion of his book.

Sure, sure, as we get busier and busier at the library you're galavanting around the English countryside looking at rocks! LOL Love the picture. How cool to see Stonehenge in person!
